Paper-Wood is a new type of plywood consisting of colored recycled paper and wooden sheets. The pattern appeared in edge holds the most colorful and beautiful looks that have never been found in existing plywood. The material was developed in 2009 by the Plywood Research Laboratory in collaboration between DRILL DESIGN, FULLSWING, and TAKIZAWA VENEER, a plywood manufacturer in Hokkaido. Today, many famous designers and architects apply this new material to their various kinds of buildings and interiors.
DRILL DESIGN is a design studio by Yusuke Hayashi and Yoko Yasunishi. In addition to product design, they focus on the design and directing of graphics, package, and space beyond categories. Through art direction, branding design, material development, and collaboration of technology development, DRILL DESIGN has many opportunities to participate in projects at the stage before the project is formulated and expand the potential of new design with clients.
