We are pleased to announce that the “RIKI STEEL CLOCK” wall clock, designed by Riki Watanabe and manufactured by TAKATA Lemnos Inc., have won the Good Design Award 2026 (sponsored by the Japan Institute of Design Promotion, a general incorporated association).

The RIKI STEEL CLOCK was redesigned by Riki Watanabe in 2008, driven by a strong desire to create a design befitting the groundbreaking features of quartz radio-controlled clocks, which were becoming increasingly popular at the time. It has been highly acclaimed as the result of a consistent and sincere pursuit of “readability” and “everyday design.”

Taking this award as an opportunity, we will work to expand sales of RIKI STEEL CLOCK while actively promoting the use of design in manufacturing and striving to enhance our brand image.

完成度の高い名品を現代へ引き継ぐには、原型を尊重しながらも、機構や製造条件、暮らしの変化に応じて手を加えることが求められる。一方で、わずかな変更が本来の均衡を損なう可能性もあり、その判断は容易ではない。本製品は、渡辺力氏のクロックデザインの系譜をたどり、氏と協働してきたデザイナーとともに造形の要点を読み直し、電波時計として現代の生活へとつないでいる。形を保存するだけでなく、これからも使われ続けるために名品へ慎重に手を加えた試みであり、デザインを継承する一つの丁寧な解法が示されている。
